About USA: An aspiring student’s perspective.

No

words can suffice to explain the depth of culture, people, diversity, nationalism and respect the world’s number one economy, the most powerful country on the planet commands.

But from the students point of view, it is highly necessary to understand that the education system in the USA, especially for the meritorious undergraduate level students is by far the best in the world. The opportunities in terms of courses, colleges, streams, diversity, flexibility and research is unmatched. And this is the reason why America is number one destination for international students from all over the world, and no wonder why the Indian students choses USA for their most preferred international destination when it comes to higher studies or even graduation.

You can never understand one language until you understand at least two.

Due to its large size and wide range of geographic features, the United States contains examples of nearly every global climate. We are giving here some brief of the world’s third largest country by land area as well as population.

The country is divided into 50 states

  • Alaska is the largest state
  • California is most populated
  • Each State has a two character abbreviation like NY is for New York, TX for Texas.
  • Each state has its own Flag, song, state bird, state tree…
  • Hollywood is in California (for those who don’t now 🙁 !)
  • California is called ‘Golden State,’ Illinois as ‘Land of Lincoln’
  • Each state has its official Licence plate.
  • The Bison is the national mammal.
  • There are four generalized time-zones in USA: Central, Eastern, Mountain and Pacific.
  • Major Cities are New York, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Boston, Miami, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Washington DC, Atlanta.
  • Mt. McKinley is the highest point in US.
  • Diverse: Ranges from Temperate in the North to Tropical in the far south.
  • West: mostly semi-arid to desert, Mountains: alpine,
  • Northeast: humid continental,
  • Southeast: humid subtropical, Coast of California: Mediterranean,
  • Pacific Northwest: cool temperate oceanic,
  • Alaska: mostly subarctic,

Hawaii, South Florida, and the territories: tropical Vast central plain, Interior Highlands and low mountains in Midwest, mountains and valleys in the mid-south, coastal flatland near the Gulf and Atlantic coasts, complete with mangrove forests and temperate, subtropical, and tropical laurel forest and jungle, canyons, basins, plateaus, and mountains in west, hills and low mountains in east; intermittent hilly and mountainous regions in Great Plains, with occasional bad land topography; rugged mountains and broad river valleys in Alaska; rugged, volcanic topography in Hawaii.

 

About their lifestyle

In USA more women are working than men, and therefore there is a great emphasis on girl education. The United States is dynamic country with cultural currents from all over the world coexist within American life. To mingle with the local crowd, you need to keep in mind that the lifestyle of Americans is a lot different than Indians.

We enjoy eating and chatting but they are outdoor people so you need to include more activities in your life if you really want to get to know and meet new people. Americans love spending their time outdoors and prefer taking part in outdoor sports, adventures and exploration. Their lifestyle is much more active, meet new people and try out a new and different set of skills.

Americans are keen on high energy sports and therefore to break the ice with the locals talk about professional sports like NFL or NBA or any other local sports. They would love it and talk and make friends easily.

Music Concerts, Night Life – People love to spend their weekend on social events like music concerts and performances or maybe just going to a bar to watch a game. They socialize and relax, so your friends or classmates might invite you to a club or bar and you need to have is an open mind to meet new people and socialize.
